White

Erik and I have been tossing around the idea of selling our place already and getting something bigger. We go back and forth all the time - and now we might wait until we know where Micah will be attending kindergarten before we make any major decisions. But in the meantime we're still trying to do some home improvement - for our own enjoyment and for resale value. And also for experience. We would really like to do a tile backsplash in our kitchen but we're having trouble deciding what colour of tile to use. I really like basic white subway tiles but I'm worried that it will be too white with our white cabinets and light-coloured countertops. I love white kitchens and maybe a few accents of colour here and there would break up the white nicely enough. Thoughts? Suggestions?

(I wish my kitchen looked this neat and clean all the time, but you'll have to imagine a fridge covered in pictures and random things cluttering up the countertops :)

I'm with you. I like the cleanliness of white but you're probably right - some colour might spice it up a little. I'd stick neutral though in case you (or anyone else) wants to paint the walls a different colour one day.

No suggestions just that I was looking around your place today and really enjoyed the colors and your decorating. I love your place as is!

Hey. You have a pretty big kitchen for it being a town house. Those kitchens are usually so small. I think you could do a darker brown. My friends did a tile backsplash and they used about 4 random colours. Different shades of blue and brown. It looked really sharp.

I really like the colour you have, or something of similar "darkness". It blends the white cupboards and tops with the light floor. although there isn't a ton of wall space, the colour helps break up the lightness.

Something neutral would be nice, and in the same darker tone as your wall colour. My suggestion would be to do it in an irridescent brown-tone mini tile. I will email you a photo - it's super beautiful.

I would definitely do something with some colour. I agree that subway tiles look awesome, but judging by your pictures, I can confidently say that I think it would be too much white. Why not go for a neutral 1"x 1" glass mosaic or something. They come in 12" x 12" sheets and I can think of one specific one that is tones of browns & reds. It is really fun & very contemporary. I think it would look fantastic! But really... your options are endless with the flooring & paint colour you have. I can think of several things that would look good!

Happy tiling!! :)

I'm not a professional, but I have been told I have talent for interior decor... my opinion is to keep it neutral because it is not an easily changeable feature... we installed mini stainless subway tile in our all white kitchen and it looks awesome... it adds the interest without tying you down to a certain color... it is a bit pricey though. You could even stick with white but a mosaic in multiple shades or textures of white... there you have it, my 2 cents! :)
