The Scoop

If you didn't see the video from the last post, here's what you missed...

It looks like baby #3 is on the way and as my previous title suggested, it wasn't something we planned! Despite the surprise (and anxiety about being a mother of 3) we are very excited.

Erik and I had started talking about when we wanted to have our 3rd but we couldn't decide. I knew that I wanted more, but felt quite content with just the 2 for a little while longer. Erik would waiver between wanting to have another one right away, to thinking that maybe we should just totally stop having kids altogether! (Yeah, Erik's pretty extreme). Anyway, we couldn't come to an agreement so we decided to not take action either way and wait it out. Seeing as previous pregnancies have required quite an intentional and pro-active effort, I wasn't expecting anything to just happen.

Well, the month came and went and I started to wonder. Another day passed and then another. On the third evening my stomach was unusually bloated before bed and then I knew I was pregnant. I even felt the need to hide my tummy that night because I hadn't breathed a word about my suspicisions to Erik. The next morning was our anniversary. I went out with the kids first thing and picked up a pregnancy test. I took it as soon as we got home and there was no mistaking the result (unlike the last test I took). By this time I kind of knew, but it was still shocking to see such an instant answer.

I wrapped up the test in a gift bag and gave it to Erik when he came home from work that night. When he saw the gift he felt really bad since we had decided we weren't going to do gifts for our anniversary. I told him I couldn't resist getting him this one little thing. He opened it up and was totally shocked! The look on his face was worth it!

My due date is March 21st and I'm 7 and a half weeks along. I've been feeling quite sick in the mornings and am not focusing on much else as I try to ride this part out. The house has been a perpetual disaster these days (having a dishwasher that's out-of-order is not helping!)

Micah is pretty excited about this new development. It will be fun watching him process it all this time around. And I'm sure Keziah will be thrilled to have a baby around. I'm afraid she will try to be too helpful! I'm glad she will be over 2 when baby comes - 28 months to be exact - so my hope is that she can be potty-trained and in her own bed well before Little Toewsie #3 arrives!

The way Keziah seems to love her dolls makes me think she will be a great big sister who will be all too willing to help in more ways than one. :0)

Steve's first reaction was "are they crazy??"
God doesn't give us more then we can handle, I actually had the thought of twins last night and surprised at the fact out of all of us kids, no one has had any yet.

Ha ha Erin - I'm sure we said the same thing about you guys :) Erik keeps talking about twins too. I'll be glad when we can have the u/s to confirm that there's only 1!

I had the fleeting thought that twins would be great. Very fleeting. That would solve the dilemma of wanting four kids but not another pregnancy! I'm happy it's just one. :) And I'm so happy to have another friend embarking on the adventure of chasing THREE!

Congratulation, Toews'!!

Way to go...I say if you're having 3 you might as well plan for 4; they say "three's a crowd but pairs are friends"...our experience was that 2 boys always "played together", our 4 sons still do pairs really well at 25+.

As your parents can probably attest to, you will be busy with a young family now, but payback time comes in about 15+ years; we are really enjoy our adult children now.

well i'm glad to read the details :)
i looked back at your post about keziah and i thought the comment from your mom was so "mommish" as in, exactly what my mom would have said! ha ha! i'm actually laughing out loud at that. i remember my mom asking and asking, are you sure? dont you have to see a dr first? etc. etc. b/c they didnt have preg tests at home in her day.
congrats again :)
i hope your wish of potty training and new bed for keziah come true! i know zeke is so interested but just not quite there yet so i'm not starting yet. i think 2yrs will be the right time for him, he's still got 3 months to go!
