Spring is in the Air

I keep waiting for the return of winter. BC winter, at least. The weather channel always seems to show a string of rainy days coming sometime in the future, but so far all we've had is sun, sun, sun! The forecast for today is 15 degrees!

I'm really enjoying the anticipation of spring coinciding with the anticipation of this new baby. It's nice to be expecting a baby in a month other than Nov & Dec. With the days getting longer I can envision myself taking long walks in the evening to get this baby out :) - and enjoying family walks together once this baby actually arrives.

Grandma gave the kids a book a few months ago called "Franklin's Baby Sister". In the story, Franklin finds out that he's going to be a big brother in the spring and eagerly looks for some signs that spring is here. So, in the last couple of weeks, when Micah would discover a new tulip or daffodil blooming on our windowsill, he would exclaim, "I can't wait for the new baby to come!!"

A bit of spring indoors.

Some signs of spring outdoors.

A warm afternoon at the park on Wednesday...

Sporting some nice "nap hair".

My view looking down. It kind of looks like I'm standing in this picture but I'm actually sitting on a bench.

As of today I am 36 weeks pregnant. My due date is exactly 1 month away - lucky for me, it's the shortest month of the year :) My doctor checked me on Thursday and said that I'm not dilated at all. It made me think that this baby may be snuggled inside me for many weeks yet, even though I get uncomfortable contractions all the time. It's crazy to think that this baby could come pretty much anytime in the next 6 weeks - that's a big window of time and I remember all too well how the last month went with Keziah. I drove myself crazy waiting for labour to start and she ended up being overdue. So, hopefully this beautiful spring weather will continue so that I can be distracted! The worst part right now is sleeping since I am afflicted with everything from heartburn and numb arms to freqent bathroom trips. I'm also battling a cold so I can't breathe properly. I feel like I've been awake more than I've slept in the last 3 nights and I don't even look forward to bedtime anymore :(

Yesterday I participated in a big cooking day. A friend of mine has been organizing these for awhile, but it's the first time that I've taken part. 9 of us worked for about 7 hours and we each went home with a freezer-full of meals! It was great and I'm so glad I was able to do this before my due date. Now we just have to try and save the meals for after the baby comes :)

Here's a bit of my stash in our garage freezer:

Well, I think it's time to get off the computer and go enjoy this beautiful day!

I am so glad you were able to go make those meals after all. Who did you get to watch the kids?
I think I'd like to do something like that if you ever get a chance to do it again.

If you ever need a distraction and a walking partner...you know who to call.

Enjoy your weekend. I saw on the weather channel that rain might be on the way.

See you on Monday.

you will LOVE having those meals to use when the baby arrives. kudos to you for participating in a cooking day at 36 weeks pregnant - that must have been a long, tiring day! (I did mine at 33 weeks and was EXHAUSTED afterwards).

The full freezer is great! How fun to do so much work with friends! (At least you weren't cooking for 7 hours by yourself!) We're going to be in for many more weeks of winter here in Alberta, but I'm happy the signs of spring are there already! It sure does make the last weeks of pregnancy go much faster. I remember being overdue with Graham, but going to the park more than once a day with Tyler to kill time! Enjoy it! :)

Ohh I remember those nights before G was born. I hope you get a bit of a break and a few good sleeps before #3 comes.

Jamie...reading your post totally brought back all the memories of that last leg of the pregnancy journey...SO not fun! I will be thinking of you and praying for you often in these coming days.

enjoy your meals! I hope to do that again sometime, but it likely won't be for a while with my little nurseling so attached to me. Have you tried Gaviscon for your heartburn? I used the Extra Strength tabs (fruit flavour is best!), and I also heard the liquid kind works really well. The tabs foam up and worked waaaayyy better than Tums for me.

I have a pot of daffodils in my house too. The stems and leave have all fallen over. I think I'm going to search the stores for baby ones that won't get so out of control.

I love your last belly picture. How quickly you'll forget what it was like to be at this stage.

Kay, 1st - TOTALLY jealous that you are having spring-like weather, and 2nd - your cooking day sounds like a fabulous idea! So nice to have meals in the freezer ready to pop into the oven. And 3rd - your belly is absolutely perfect! You should do a belly cast of it, it is just so perfectly round!

Great to have that freezer full of meals! Oh, to have some of that BC weather!!! And you have to stay pregnant a while longer. Kailyn wants this cousin to come on her birthday!!

Thanks for the flower pics...reminds us of what is coming (in a couple of months)! We had the taps dripping at night to prevent frozen water lines not even a week ago b/c it was so cold and windy here. Now it's a dreary rainy day. I'll take a few more weeks of nice snow!
Cherish the last few weeks of pregnancy. It'll be over before you know it and you'll have your third baby in your arms! I will pray that all will go well.
