Relaxin' all cool...
Didn't I read someone's blog recently about the reclinability of these foamy chairs?
So far Micah doesn't appear to have caught our cold. And the rest of us are feeling a bit better today, but we're still laying pretty low. I don't plan on heading out for a couple of days, especially now that we're getting another dump of snow. We've had such crazy weather here the last couple of months - last night there was even lightning and hail before the snow started. We sure didn't have those kind of winter storms in the prairies...
I think Micah has officially entered a jealous stage. He often throws tantrums while I'm feeding Keziah - deciding at that inopportune time that he absolutely MUST have something. And yesterday when I would hold her, he would immediately insist that I hold him. I hate hearing him cry and whine, and yet I think he's got to learn somehow. I just feel bad - like he thinks I don't love him anymore! He has also discovered how loudly he can scream and how much of a reaction he can get from it - especially when Keziah is sleeping. Do I just ignore it and not give him any reaction, or do I punish him every time? He's definitely been pushing my buttons this week! He sure looks like the doting big brother in this picture. He likes to help me burp Keziah, but his back pats are more like wallops!
Keziah is 7 weeks old today. She is going to be two months before we know it! She is still sleeping well for me at night - up to 8 hours! The other night she only did 5 and I was disappointed but then had to remind myself how blessed I am to have such a good sleeper. I can definitely still remember those short nights with Micah.
I also have worked hard this past week to get her to fall asleep on her own and for the most part it seems to be working as long as I catch her at the right time. I've been getting some good tips from The Baby Whisperer.
That's all there is to report today. Now I'm off to relax a little while both kids are napping:)

Hee hee, it was my post you read about the chair reclining!! Did Micah see that picture too and need to test out if his chair was the reclining model!??

Hi Jamie. I have a idea about micah being jealous of Keziah. Maybe try this idea: When Keziah is sleeping try to spend one on one with Micah. Maybe play a game, tell a story or just talk to him and tell him how much you love. When you are feeding Keziah give Micah an activity to do and tell Micah that you will spend time with him after you have finished feeding Keziah.
Good Luck
Summer
Hey James,
Does the baby whisperer work on 10 month olds? I keep putting off any sleep training and it's definitely catching up with me at night.

wow jamie! our toddlers are behaving exactly the same, its kind of amazing how they both just started now. it breaks my heart too when diedre cries with such sadness, she's been saying "mommy my" (my mommy) and asking me to hold her. i've been choosing to stay home just to try to give her as much one on one as possible (because i think its more valuable then her playing with other kids right now to give me a break). its tough eh?

jamie,
so glad to hear Keziah is sleeping so well! that gives me hope that maybe our next one will do that well! although, i have no complaints about taeya's sleeping anymore!
as for micah's jealousy fits...i sadly have no advice, but we'll be praying about it for you.
We'll have to have you guys down again soon, or just get together...feels like we haven't seen you in a while!
i honestly think those two kids get cuter every time i "see" them!!!
and i sure would have traded what we got today for the hail & lightning!! :)
Micah seems to be acting similar to Caleb right now... I suppose its all normal. It sure is hard though. I feel your frustration and pain!
The change in Calebs behavior has been by far the hardest adjustment for me since having Taite.
Part of me is where is my sweet lil Caleb.... because he has been testing me that much! It can sometimes be so overwelming that I just want to cry and lock myself in a room....
I hope this passes quickly...
and i hope yours doesnt get as bad as mine, because its so hard...
Hey Jamie!
Glad to hear that you're feeling a bit better and that Micah didn't catch your cold. I have no advice to offer - sorry - but hopefully things settle down soon with him. Have a good day!
Another really good book is "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child"... My friend told me to hurry and get that book when my child hit 4 months, and I was ready to lose my mind. She said if you don't get it figured out by 4 months, it will be harder as the months go on. So, I hurried and bought the book, saved my life. If your child is older than this, just check out this book and go to the next phase and start NOW!!!!! Good Luck
my kids do that constantly with there foamy chairs!! Glad to her keziah is sleeping so well. And the jelouse thing is normal. I experienced that and it kicked in about a month later. I found at the start they were all excited and then when they realized the baby was here to stay, they got jelouse.
it gets better and now the kids are inseperable
she is so cute, i love that last pic of her. wow she is just going to get more and more beautiful!
i am not a mom so i can't really give you any advice without sounding like an idiot. but i personally think you are correct when you say "he has to learn". you are absolutely right.. he has to learn, even though it probably breaks your heart at moments. he knows you still love him and probably will feel even more secure if you say no and give boundaries. AHHH!! sorry if that was too much advice. just speaking from my own experience as the oldest child!
be blessed!
Hey James: Lucky you that both kids still nap!!! I miss those days. Reed is up now most afternoons and the break just isn't there anymore so take advantage of it while you can!! As for the potty-training, I actually started with Reed back just after he turned 2. The first day was awful but by day 3 he was doing pretty good. However, after Riley was born he sort of went through a jealous stage and it all went backward!! Then i decided he wasn't ready and gave up for awhile. However, when I started again this time, it was like starting all over again!! I don't think he's going to get it for a bit yet, unfortunately. He never tells me when he needs to go, just as he is going and doesn't do #2 well either!! So I'm not sure what to do. I'm tired of cleaning h9im up and feel he should be big enough to know bettr but I think it just comes down to not wanting to. Anyway, if there was one piece of advice i could offer would be that once you start, don't stop!!! So decide when you think it is right for you and when you think Micah is ready and go from there. And don't get discouraged, eventually they will get it-they won't be 18 and still not potty trained- and if they are, it's not our problem!!! Take care and good luck!!
Well Jamie, I can't really give advice. Just give me a few years and then I'll be asking you for advice and you will have the wisdom. One thing I'll say is do try to have a Micah date once and awhile. Have Eric watch Keziah while you take Micah out for a drink or play in the snow or something...just so he feels he has you to himself too.
Potty Training:
my kid is 38 months and just not getting it.
pulling the undies off, pulling the pullups off.
i am so frustrated.
is it that some kids just aren't ready at 38 months?
my kid is a boy.
helllpppppppppp!
jamie, i still have diapers for keziah - hopefully she fits them (and you want them)! if you're not going out much these days, maybe i can pop over sometime next week and drop them off (and have a visit if you're up for it). hope things are getting better with micah. he's just little himself and needs some time to get used to things - his little world has changed incredibly over the last few months! i'm sure he will adjust in time.
It sounds like you have a good handle on everything. You are showing him love and that is the most important part. I am sure he knows how much you love him and you are doing a great job being a loving mother!
But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings as eagles, they shall run and not be weary they shall walk and not faint, teach me Lord teach me Lord to wait (great verse and song I like to sing during tough times)
she is looking more and more like you Jamie. what a cutie! we are having a fun time. NOAH IS DOING OOD. ttyl granny
I hope things improve quickly Jamie - You are a great mom and Micah will adjust to having a baby sister. Remember to treat yourself to some time so that you can have the patience to be a mom of two.
We'll be praying for you
Ej and crew
PS I'll call you this week and try and reschedule our dinner(hopefully no one gets sicks!!)
